The unease behind the thin veil of happy...

i was in the subway yesterday. there was Santa and two ttc workers dressed like elves. they were taking instant pictures of people with Santa. lots of people got one. i got one. the little kid before me cried the whole times. it was, apparently, terrifying to her. she was also only wearing one shoe. (off-screen: man yells, "FUUUUUUUUCK. SIX. MORE. MINUTES." referencing the listed wait time until the next train.) still, i thought the whole thing was kind of nice. people rarely give anything for free, but it seems especially so at Christmas time.

after the Kodak moment i walked down the platform to catch my train. OH: two subway workers: "yeah, they thought suicide at first, but then went back and looked at the cameras. no, pushed." somehow nice moments always feel like a thin veneer masking dark times.
